S – I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were cold or hot. 16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of my mouth
Revelations 3:15–16 CSB
O – Commentary:
The hot springs in Hierapolis were famous for their healing qualities. Colosse was equally famous for its cold, refreshing springs. In contrast, the water available in Laodicea was smelly and lukewarm. Such water is distasteful; Jesus was saying that the church’s indecisive commitment to him was revolting.
New Living Translation Study Bible
A – This is one of a couple examples where the Bible talks about “indecisiveness.” James 1:6 NLT -“But when you ask him, be sure your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea blown and tossed by the wind.” We must be firm and resolute in our faith and walk with Christ. There is one God and one path (Jesus).
R – Heavenly Father, we revere you as the one and only God. Help us to set our thoughts, words and actions on you today. Give us strength and resolve to be single-focused in our relationship. We may stumble but we will rise up to walk with you.
